DESIGN NOTES
Black Dog Cycle Works has once again designed an Ultimate Skid Plate for the new Yamaha Tenere 700 (a.k.a. T7) . We recognize any product is a compromise - manufacturers have to balance key features, materials selection, ease of installation, ease of removal for maintenance, development costs, production costs, related shipping costs to the consumer as well as where the product is made. Based on our 13 years of development experience, we feel we have struck an ideal balance with our new Ultimate Skid Plate for the Yamaha Tenere 700.
In a rare move, Yamaha gave us a cradle frame to work with - unfortunately the bolts used at the stock mounting points are way too weak (they are only 6mm bolts) to consider solely supporting a rugged skid plate from, so we started with fresh drawing board. We created a submount at the front to support the skid plate in the most burley way, attaching to the bike in FOUR different points. In addition, we designed a steel rear submount that attaches directly to the frame, which does not have to be removed for oil changes, provides extra strength to the bottom of the skid plate (the area that gets hit most often) when then tied both front and mounts together using the 3/16" aluminum skid plate as a stress member. Combined, you won't find a tougher, more durable skid plate for the T7 on the market anywhere!
Some riders may say "my T7 already has a skid plate on it from the factory" - our only question is how much faith do you want to put in that 'aluminum foil" stock skid plate to prevent you from damaging your motor and having to walk out of the backcountry? With the Black Dog Skid Plate, you can ride those remote areas we all love so much with confidence.
Another key aspect we focused on was to maximize ground clearance while still providing a "crush zone" between the skid plate and key components such as the header pipe. The 3/16" (4.76mm) 5052 Aluminum we use in our skid plate will give a bit on impact, lessening the force transmitted to the mounting points as well as being less likely to crack, unlike the harder materials used by some of our competitors.

- YAMAHA TENERE 700 (2022+) - VERSION 3
COMPATIBILITY
- Compatible with OEM, Hepco Becker, and Touratech Crash Bars (possibly others which are not tested yet)
- Compatible with Hepco Becker Center Stand and Yamaha OEM Center Stand
- NOT compatible with the Outback Motortek crash bars
- Unknown if it works with the SWMotech Center Stand
- Version 2 does not fit with MIVV or Leo Vince headers (v3 unknown)
